The United Latinos Coalition of Lake County is scheduled to host a free, nine-week leadership training program for Hispanic residents interested in becoming more involved in local government.

The Leadership Development Program aims to train Hispanic community leaders in public policy issues to make them more effective in their roles as elected, appointed or volunteer leaders.

Local elected and appointed officials will offer input and receive training in improving relations with their Hispanic constituents. The program is sponsored by the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute.

“We are very excited to bring a training program of this caliber to the communities in Lake County,” said Rosa Reyes-Prosen, president of the United Latinos Coalition of Lake County. “Our coalition is looking to begin a dialogue between the Latino communities and our elected and appointed officials so we may better understand how the system works and so they understand that there are Latinos ready and able to serve.”

An informational meeting is scheduled for noon Friday at Provena St. Therese Medical Center, 2615 Washington St., Waukegan. The program begins April 6. Participants must be at least 18 years old. Call 847-782-6241 for more information.
