An area food pantry and a community volunteer group have teamed up once again to make the Easter holiday special for children and seniors from low-income families.
Last year, the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry and the non-profit organization Just Because . . . Kids Count distributed more than 3,300 Easter baskets.
This year’s goal is to fill at least 5,200 baskets, according to Vicki R. Precht, volunteer director of Kids Count.
Donations of stuffed animals, toys, toiletries, books, activity items, packaged snacks and wrapped candies are being sought for the project. Plastic eggs, Easter grass, baskets and other usable containers also are needed.
“You can imagine the number of items we need to fill this number of baskets,” Precht said.
Cash, checks, toys and other goodies may be dropped off during the day at Just Because. . .Gifts, 15 N. Chestnut St. in Aurora.
Hundreds of volunteers also are needed to assemble Easter baskets, from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m. April 3-6 and April 10-13 at the New England Congregational Church, West Galena Boulevard and Chestnut Street in Aurora. For more information, call Just Because. . .Kids Count at 630-892-1234.
