Kenneth “Mutt” Meadows, 37, of Genoa, Ill., a former longtime resident of Elgin and a private pilot, died Friday, March 24, in St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford after an automobile collision in Boone County. Born in Elgin, Mr. Meadows was a graduate of Larkin High School there. After high school, Mr. Meadows worked in the construction industry at Ace Blacktop Co., a paving business in Elgin. Starting in 1984, he worked as an assembly line foreman at W.R. Meadows Inc., a family-owned construction-industry products manufacturer in Hampshire, Ill. Since 1998, Mr. Meadows attended Rock Valley College in Rockford, where he recently passed the Federal Aviation Administration airframe mechanic exam. He was working toward becoming a certified engine mechanic and hoped to own and operate his own small airport. Mr. Meadows and his wife, Angela, lived on a 10-acre farm, where they tended to two horses and raised alfalfa. “They’ve had two dogs and a pig just wander into their place,” added his father, George. “They took them all in.” Other survivors include his mother, Marian; a sister, Frances Husmann; and two brothers, George and William. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Grace United Methodist Church, 325 South St., Elgin.
