Joseph and Gail Brito of Grayslake announce the engagement of their daughter Erika Laurel to Bruce K. Varela, son of Hector Varela of Houston, Texas, and Cecilia Romero of Wheeling.
The future bride received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in restaurant management. She is a student teacher at St. Charles High School and is pursuing a master’s degree in applied family and child studies at Northern Illinois University.
The future groom received a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in food and nutrition. He is a graduate assistant and is pursuing a master’s degree in physical education at Northern Illinois University.
The couple is planning a July wedding in DeKalb.
