Changing technologies are to blame for the delay in upgrading New Lenox’s cable television service, a cable company representative told the Village Board Tuesday.
A redesign of the cable system architecture is finally complete, making one upgrade available now, according to Roger Connor, government relations manager for AT&T.
Connor said cable customers can turn in their old converter for a new model that allows access to seven more channels. The new converter also permits customers to order pay-per-view service using the remote control, as well as providing an interactive program guide.
In a few months, a more advanced digital service will be introduced, Connor said.
However, Internet service won’t be ready as quickly, he said, citing the difficulties in merging the needed technologies.
Mayor Mike Smith said businesses as well as residents are anxious for the service upgrades. Some businesses have “put New Lenox on the back burner” until the village has access to more advanced communications technology, he said.
