Just in case the Pokemon fan in your house still hasn’t had enough of the more than 150 characters portrayed in the popular video game series, Woodfield Shopping Center in Schaumburg is hosting the Pokemon 2000 Stadium Tour on Saturday and Sunday.
The tour, which marks the release of two new games, “Pokemon Stadium” for Nintendo 64 and “Pokemon Trading Card Game” for Game Boy Color, will be held from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day, with registration beginning at 10 a.m. Admission is free.
Released in the U.S. in September 1998, Pokemon has sold more than 14 million video games and millions of related trading cards and products. Its characters also have been featured in a TV series and an animated movie.
Throughout the weekend, 10,000 to 12,000 Pokemon fans are expected to descend on Woodfield to play “Pokemon Stadium,” based on attendance for the event at other malls. Kids can compete in tournaments and collect and trade game cards.
“Pokemon Stadium” features new technology that will allow participants to transfer information stored in hand-held Game Boy editions to a big screen for three-dimensional play.
Tournament participants are required to bring their own Game Boy systems and a Pokemon Red, Blue or Yellow game pack.
Three different levels of tournament play will be offered. Tables with link cables will be provided. Other attractions include appearances by the Pokemon character Pikachu and the viewing of a customized Pikachu Volkswagen Beetle.
