I have argued for years that America should adopt a policy where we get some type of extended national vacation. I did some traveling to Europe last summer and met some travelers from other parts of the world (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, other European countries), and they explained to me that their countries have anywhere from three-week to two-month national breaks. They say that during this time many people travel to other countries, travel through their own countries or just take time off with their families and relax and forget about work.

Why our country cannot grasp this idea is beyond me. It seems we would rather work in some job all year, complaining and getting stressed for a few extra bucks, than enjoy our lives and explore our planet. How many people do you know who have been to all 50 states in our own country? These types of experiences open your mind to new ideas and new cultures. Money is great, but Americans should be able to go out and enjoy it.
