Ald. Edward Burke’s proposal to ban smoking in Chicago restaurants will benefit patrons and owners alike (“Burke now goes after restaurant smoking,” Metro, April 13).

Knowing that I will not come home smelling like an ashtray will make me much more likely to venture to Chicago for dining.

For owners to suggest that they will lose money because smokers drink more puts them on almost the same moral footing as the cigarette makers themselves, who profit from the unhealthy habits of others.
