Community volunteer Mary Lou O’Halleran and several other members of the Mayor’s Strategic Plan Advisory Committee reported good progress in their assigned projects involving bike trails and pedestrian crossings, Geneva’s Forum for the Arts, and RiverPark.
She also invited aldermen to a town meeting held by the committee on June 3 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Mill Race Inn. The purpose of the meeting is to encourage all citizens to participate in Geneva’s ongoing projects, including a proposed SkatePark, Handyman Program where seniors and young people work together, and Government Day for Youth where students get a taste of government operations.
Mary Zander, who has spearheaded the RiverPark project, reported that fundraising events, as well as commitments from the City Council, Park District and Lions and Rotary Clubs, have raised more than $30,000 for the project. In addition, Western Avenue School donated the proceeds of its walk-a-thon to RiverPark. The next RiverPark event will be a bike-in-the-park ice cream social July 16.
