We hear so much bad about the CTA, I wanted to relate my recent experience at the Red Line Lake Street station.
I exited the train because signage at the station said Washington Street. I didn’t realize my error until I had cleared the exit gate. I walked back to the agent and said, “I’m lost!”
“You’re not lost,” he said, with the assurance of someone who knows where he is.
I told him I was trying to transfer to the Blue Line. He said, “You should have gotten off seven stops ago.”
As my mouth gaped open, he started laughing. “You got me!” I said. He opened the gate to give me access to walk to the transfer station, explaining with good humor where I’d gone wrong, and wishing me a nice day.
He had the power to make my situation a pleasant or unpleasant experience. What a difference his humor made.
