Trying to locate the important documents — a will, military discharge papers, health-care directives, the power of attorney — belonging to a deceased or seriously ill relative can be daunting. Things could be stashed anywhere from a cigar box in the closet to a secret wall safe.
The Funeral Consumers Alliance may have solved the problem with an end-of-life planning kit that’s designed to be stored in your freezer. The kit includes the pamphlet “Before I Go, You Should Know” and comes in a plastic pouch with useful documents such as a state-specific Living Will and other advance directives. There’s also a refrigerator magnet with the message “Matters of Life and Death Inside” designed to guide those left behind to the packet in the freezer.
Cost of the kit is $10. For more information or to order, go to www.funerals.org/famsa and click on the FAMSA-FCA bookstore icon, or call 800-765-0107.
