Robert Avery “Bob” Colburn, 88, of Barrington retired in 1987 as co-owner and operator of Colburn Laboratory, a Chicago processor of motion picture film, after 52 years of service. Mr. Colburn, who was born in Highland Park, died Thursday, May 25, in his home. “He joined his [late] brother George in 1935 in Colburn Laboratory,” said his daughter Nancy McKim, and they provided 8 mm and 16 mm movie film processing and printing services. Mr. Colburn had been an officer in the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and Association of Cinema Laboratories. He was a choir member and baritone soloist at Barrington United Methodist Church. Mr. Colburn served as treasurer of the Barrington Area Library Board of Trustees from 1963 to 1967. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Frances; two more daughters, Joan Robertson and Robbie Drabek; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Salem United Methodist Church, 115 W. Lincoln Ave., Barrington.
