Parents, mark your calendars. Thomas the Tank Engine is coming to town.
The star of the children’s television series “Storytime With Thomas” will be at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union on Aug. 19, 20, 26 and 27. It’s part of a program called “A Day Out With Thomas,” and includes a 55-ton steam engine that’s a replica of Thomas. The steam locomotive will be pulling five passenger coaches to accommodate fans. There will also be clowns, magicians, live music and at least seven other trains in operation.
Last year’s program drew 275,000 fans to 26 events across the country, including more than 16,000 for a three-day weekend at the Illinois Railway Museum. This year, with Thomas’ visit spread over two weekends, the crowds should be even bigger.
Advance tickets are on sale now. Cost is $10, and includes one ride on the Thomas train plus unlimited rides on other exhibits. Tickets can be purchased on line at www.irm.org, at the museum’s office or by calling 800-BIG-RAIL.
