An American soldier accused of raping and killing an 11-year-old Kosovo girl and leaving her body in the snow will face a court-martial at his base in Germany, with the possibility of life imprisonment without parole if convicted, Army officials said Tuesday.

No arraignment date was immediately set for Staff Sgt. Frank Ronghi, who was arrested soon after the Jan. 13 killing.

The commander of the 1st Infantry Division in Wuerzburg, to which Ronghi had been assigned temporarily, referred the case Monday to a general court-martial after two hearings to review evidence, the Army said.

Among the charges facing Ronghi, 35, of Niles, Ohio, are premeditated murder, felony murder and rape.
