A fire Tuesday caused an estimated $8,000 to $10,000 in damage to a home in the 3600 block of Sigwalt Street, police said. The fire, reported at 2:50 p.m., may have started when a flammable liquid stored outside the home was accidentally ignited, possibly by an errant match, said Rolling Meadows Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Klein. The fire damaged an outside wall on the west side of the building, charred support beams and caused minor smoke damage to the attic, Klein said. The blaze was extinguished by 3:08 p.m., police said. Police said a 38-year-old resident discovered the blaze after returning home from a short errand. The home was not occupied during the incident.
