Comedian Bob Hope, recovering from gastrointestinal bleeding, was released a day early from the hospital on Wednesday after telling his wife, “I’m up, I’m dressed, I might as well go home,” his publicist said.
Ward Grant, the 97-year-old comedian’s publicist and longtime friend, said Hope went down to the main lobby of Eisenhower Regional Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., to wave to waiting television cameras and saw no reason to return to his hospital room.
Doctors agreed he had sufficiently recovered and released him on the condition that he continue physical therapy and vital signs monitoring at home, Grant said.
“There’s still a period of recuperating, but he doesn’t need to be in the hospital any longer, and he’ll be getting some home cooking,” Grant said.
