Jerry McCoy has been named finance director of South Elgin, filling a vacancy created when Harry Sakai quit to take a similar job in Carpentersville.

McCoy, 55, is the former treasurer of Sedgwick County, Kan. His wife, Karla, works for Ameritech.

One of McCoy’s first jobs will be to select a new financial software package.

He will also have to find a way for the village to secure liability insurance since its withdrawal from the Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency.

“There are things the village would like to accomplish and having a qualified finance director again will put us in a stronger position to do that,” said Village Administrator Brent Eichelberger.

McCoy, who was named to the post Monday, will head a four- person department.
