Instead of choosing to inform your readers about Vice President Al Gore’s environmental initiatives (“Sierra Club board member asked organization not to endorse Gore,” News, May 31) you published a story based on an old e-mail being circulated by the Republican National Committee. By choosing to run the Associated Press story that focused on a six-month-old e-mail by Sierra Club board member Michael Dorsey about Gore, you did your readers a great disservice. Nowhere in this story does it mention what Gore will do to protect our environment. Where does it say that he pledged to prohibit logging and road building on 43 million acres of undeveloped national forests? Where does it say that Gore has pledged to extend these same protections to the Tongass National Forest in Alaska?
Since his days in Congress, Gore has demonstrated leadership, commitment and vision on the environment, something your readers should know.
In the future, I suggest that you better inform the public of the issues and the initiatives on the environment laid out by each candidate.
