The Schaumburg Transportation Committee unanimously recommended that the Village Board renew a contract to retain Stephen Schlickman, of Schlickman & Associates, Chicago, as consultant for the Northwest Transit Corridor regional rail transportation project.

The committee, at its meeting Tuesday night, recommended that Schlickman receive a retainer of $3,770 per month, for 15 percent of his time, during the new fiscal year. That amount is a 3.6 percent increase over his contract for the previous fiscal year.

“His technical and professional services have been very valuable to us,” said Leanne Redden, village director of transportation. “As of today we’ve moved from the feasibility study to the federally prescribed alternatives analysis.”

Redden told the committee that Schlickman’s experience is also needed to keep the village informed of federal transit regulations and procedures.

Schlickman, former head of the City of Chicago’s liaison office in Washington, D.C., was director of intergovernmental relations for the Regional Transportation Authority and former government affairs and legislative counsel for the Chicago Transportation Authority.

In other action, the committee unanimously recommended that the Village Board approve a contract for $24,943 with Schaumburg-based TranSystemsCorp. for assistance in preparing up to seven grant applications.

Transportation engineer June Druckman told the committee that TranSystems has, over the last year, already helped the village to receive more than $5 million in grants for several transportation projects.

The recommendations for both contracts will be presented to the Village Board Tuesday.
