An Elgin developer is planning to build a five-building professional and office complex north of Huntley Road and east of Miller Road in Carpentersville.
The Carpentersville Plan Commission on Thursday night heard Midwest Commercial Development’s proposal for five buildings varying in size from 6,600 square feet to 8,500 square feet. The use for the targeted 5-acre parcel is compatible with its current C-2 commercial use zoning, village officials said.
Midwest Commercial Vice President Rick Zirk said that the Edwards Professional Center property is better suited for offices than for lower-end retail or similar uses.
Zirk said several child-care center operators have inquired about the proposed $5 million project. Midwest Commercial will provide detailed plans when it returns to the commission at a later date. Zirk said he hopes to begin construction by fall, with completion 18 months later.
In other action, the commission voted to recommend approval of a final site plan for the first phase of the 350,000-square-foot Prairie Meadows commercial subdivision at the northeast corner of Randall and Huntley Roads.
The project would include a 65,000-square foot Dominick’s Finer Foods and another 28,000 square feet of retail space.
