The Village Board has taken the first steps toward renovating the inside of a historical house on Lies Road by approving a $23,500 contract for architectural plans.

“We’re very happy we’ll be able to proceed with the project,” said Barbara O’Rahilly, Historic House Committee chairwoman.

Anne McGuire & Associates of Evanston will draw up blueprints to restore part of the 130-year-old farmhouse to its original state. Other sections of it will be turned into a kitchen, a public meeting area and a caretaker’s apartment.

Plans also include making the interior comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The design phase should take about two months, said AMA principal Anne McGuire.

Carol Stream started restoring the 1870 Italianate farmhouse in 1998 after receiving it from Pasquinelli Builders as part of the annexation agreement for the Autumn Ridge subdivision.
