John Henry Baumann Sr., 67, of South Elgin, retired in the mid-1980s after 35 years as owner and operator of the former Big John Masonrycontractors in Hinsdale, Naperville, Wheaton and Chicago. Mr. Baumann, a Chicago native, died Thursday, June 8, in his home. “He was one of the strongest, bravest, most courageous men I’ve ever known,” said his fiance, Marlene Miciunas. “He was truly the man of my dreams that I never thought I’d find. I loved his humor. He had all the values important to me–the love, trust, morals. I’m happy for the time we had together.” Other survivors include two daughters, Debbie Mizer and Dawn Gallagher; two sons, John Henry Jr. and James; a stepson, Richard Rittgarn; a stepdaughter, Terry Smith; his mother and stepfather, Elnora and I.S. Herrington; two brothers, Marvin and Jerry; a half-brother, Larry Herrington; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles. A service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1175 N. 5th Ave., St. Charles.
