I can’t understand all this fuss about the 10 Commandments. When I was in Catholic school back in 1932, I met my Uncle Jim standing in front of a store. Jim had been on crutches since childhood and had an unusual outlook on life.

He became my favorite philosopher over the years.

I was on my way home from school that day, and Jim asked, “What did you learn in school today?”

I said, “The 10 Commandments.”

He said: “Phooey. They tell you what not to do and they should tell you what you should do. I’ve got my own 10 Commandments–`be nice, be nice, be nice, be nice, be nice, be nice, be nice, be nice and be nice.'”

I said, “That’s only nine.”

He said, “Ten is `be careful; some folks don’t like nice.'”
