Helen Malicki Barton, 101, a former secretary who enjoyed reading and listening to opera, died Friday, June 9, from natural causes in Warren Barr Pavilion nursing home in Chicago. Mrs. Barton, whose father was a tailor from Germany, was born, raised and educated in Chicago. She met her husband, Dan , while working in Chicago as a secretary. Mr. Barton, a native of Oshkosh, Wis., created the Barton Organ that was used in silent movie theaters and at Chicago Stadium. When movies with sound became popular, Mrs. Barton and her husband moved to Oshkosh and raised their family. The couple also bought property and rented apartments there during World War II. Mrs. Barton, who was one of seven children, often visited with her family at a summer retreat in Newton, Wis. After about 40 years in Oshkosh, Mrs. Barton returned to Chicago following her husband’s death. She cared for a brother until he died, at which time she moved to a retirement hotel. She was living at Barr Pavilion at the time of her death. Mrs. Barton is survived by a son, David; a cousin, Lillys Cwalina; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be private.
