In the early ’70s, PC’s were not broadly compatible. Software did not work across different systems. Even in the ’80s, very little shared compatibility was in hardware or software designs. That hard-nosed, aggressive, no-good promoter Bill Gates changed all that. Rather than penalize Microsoft, they ought to give Bill Gates a medal. Any court action on splitting up Microsoft may not return us to the era of compatibility problems, but it will weaken our worldwide position. It is counterproductive.
