Howard “Bill” Nates, 77, of Wheaton, a World War II veteran, died Thursday, June 15, in Governors Park Rehabilitation Center, Barrington. Born in Harvard and raised in Elgin, Mr. Nates served three years in the Army, driving a tank during World War II. Mr. Nates lived in Wheaton for more than 40 years and was a maintenance employee for Magnatrol International, Downers Grove. He retired in 1985. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lucille; two daughters, Sharon Blalock and Linda Mittman; six sons, Howard Jr., Gary, Rodney, Craig, Donald and Kevin; three sisters, Marge Ackerman, Sylvia Mac and Eleanor Thiede; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Rd., Wheaton. Services for Mr. Nates will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday.
