Dianne B. Sweigert, 58, a former longtime resident of Batavia, died Friday, June 16, in her Huntley home after a long battle with lymphoma. Mrs. Sweigert grew up in the Kaneville/Maple Park area, where her family farmed until 1960. She attended Illinois State University for a time, until she met James Sweigert. They were wed in 1963 and made their home in Batavia, where they raised their family. In 1979, Mrs. Sweigert earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Northern Illinois University and began substitute teaching at Kaneland High School. In 1982, she began working for Arthur Andersen & Co. in St. Charles, where she was employed as a curriculum editor and later as a training coordinator. In 1990, Mrs. Sweigert took a position as training coordinator with McDermott, Will & Emery, a Chicago law firm.While with the firm, she completed her master’s degree in business at Loyola University in 1992. About that time, Mrs. Sweigert was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, but kept working until shortly before her death. In 1999, she and her husband moved into their dream home in Del Webb’s Sun City. Mrs. Sweigert was a life-long member of the Kaneville United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. Always active in the lives of her children and her community, she was a member of the Batavia Mothers Club and served as a Sunday school teacher and a den mother. Survivors include her husband, James; a son, James; two daughters, Megan Masters and Marcia Sweigert; her mother, Daphne Edwards; a brother, Charles Edwards; a sister, Drusilla Sanberg; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Kaneville United Methodist Church, Main Street Road, Kaneville.
