The Carpentersville Village Board voted 4-3 this week to name Thomas Mikulecky its new village manager.

Mikulecky, 61, has served as interim manager since last fall and until April headed a search for a replacement for Kevin O’Donnell, who was fired in November. Mikulecky gave up the search role after deciding to seek the job himself.

Mikulecky will be paid $90,000 under a contract that runs through July 31, 2001. He was one of two finalists out of nine candidates, according to Village President Cheryal Callahan.

Trustee John Noverini, who voted against hiring Mikulecky, said that while the candidate is “very qualified” for the job, “the salary is excessive. It’s a 25 percent increase over what we paid our last village manager.”

Last month, the board dropped its residency requirement for a village manager. The move allowed Mikulecky to keep a residence in Peoria.
