In the pre-computer age, animated cartoons required hundreds of thousands of individual drawings to simulate movement, and these were usually destroyed when the films were completed. Walt Disney’s “Cinderella” was made the same way, but fortunately much of the original artwork survived, and Barrington’s Stay Tooned Gallery has over 100 pieces on display to celebrate “Cinderella’s” 50th anniversary. The opening reception is from 6-9 p.m. Friday; the free show is open every day through Sept. 30 in the Barrington Ice House Mall, 200 Applebee St. 847-382-2357. An entirely different type of creative endeavor that was surely born of equal sweat and blood is featured in The Arts of Life, an exhibit featuring the work of 15 developmentally disabled artists. Their work is on display from Monday through July 28 at the Arts of Life studio in the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St. Open 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Free (donations accepted).
