As a Jew and a Democrat, I am dismayed by Al Gore’s choice of a running mate. Joseph Lieberman is a fine man–honest and ethical with high morals and good ideas. But he will not bring votes to the ticket; in fact, he will lose them.

The Jewish vote is always predominantly Democratic, so the gain there is insignificant. Unfortunately anti-Semitism still exists, and many non-Jewish voters will not want to have a Jew that close to the White House. It was a brave choice; but for practical, political purposes, it was a wrong one.
