Flight delays at O’Hare, gridlock on the Outer Drive, stop-and-go driving from road repairs on the interstates underscore the need not for a third airport, not for more highways but for high-speed rail. Europe has it; Japan has it; the East Coast has it; some areas in the West do. If we could travel rapidly, in comfort, to St. Louis, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Cincinnati and points in-between, we would all benefit, including those who still must drive or fly.
