Ah, the good old days, when the Amazon was a mighty river and not some place on the Internet where you can buy “Everybody Poops.” Paying tribute to the old-school Amazon, the Shedd Aquarium’s “Treasures and Terrors: Three Tales of Working in the Amazon” opens at 6 p.m. Wednesday with a book-signing by Amazon Conversation Team president Mark Plotkin. Tickets: $45 per lecture ($120 for the three-lecture series, which continues on Oct. 25 and Nov. 29). 312-939-2438.
