I watched Gov. George W. Bush on the Oprah Winfrey show Sept. 19. When he was asked if he was sure that each of the at least 142 people who have been executed since he’s been in office was guilty, he said he was absolutely sure each and every one was guilty. The system in Texas, he said, was a perfect system. Isn’t it comforting to be so sure? Gov. Bush must sleep well at night. I wish I could.
