John A. Rudd, 60, of Naperville, formerly of Granville, Ohio, died Friday, Sept. 22, in Edward Hospital in Naperville. Mr. Rudd graduated from Southern Methodist University with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He earned a master’s degree from Ohio State and was employed as an engineer for Lucent Technologies. A Naperville resident since 1973, Mr. Rudd was a member of Wheatland-Salem United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He flew and owned his own ultra-light airplane and was a member of the Fox Valley Flying Club. He was a member of the Naperville Emergency Management Agency and the Civil Air Patrol, and was an amateur radio operator. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a son, Brian; a daughter, Susan Layne; a brother, Joel; his stepmother, Dorothy; and a granddaughter. Memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Wheatland-Salem United Methodist Church, Book Road and 95th Street, Naperville.
