Helen V. Johnson, 83, of Arlington Heights, died Thursday, Sept. 28, in Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker. Born in Chicago, she raised her family in the city and had lived in Arlington Heights for two decades. She enjoyed crafts, reading and knitting blankets. “She was down to earth and always spoke her mind,” said granddaughter Carrie Matczynski. Other survivors include a daughter, Lolita Matczynski; three sisters, Betty Jane Daly, Patricia Fielding and Rosemary Villardito; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights. Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 700 S. Meier Rd., Mt. Prospect.
