Contrary to your Sept. 25 editorial “How will history judge Iraq policy?” the moral responsibility for the 1 million Iraqi deaths caused by sanctions lies not with Iraq but with the United States government.
Since the end of the Gulf War, it has been the policy of the U.S. to maintain the sanctions, not until weapons of mass destruction are destroyed, as the cease-fire agreement clearly stipulates, but for as long as the current Iraqi regime remains in power. This hideous and immoral policy is nothing less than our government’s spiteful response for failing to vanquish Iraq’s leader and his military during the war.
