Some school records in this Detroit suburb have been subpoenaed by the FBI, its superintendent said.
East Detroit schools this week will turn over the final documents and tapes sought by the FBI, Supt. Ron Ciranna said. Subpoenaed items include overtime payments made to district employees since 1995, documents dealing with work ordered by the Eastpointe fire marshal, and tapes and minutes of board meetings, he said.
“I talked to one of the agents and he said this is the last of the stuff they want,” Ciranna said.
A federal grand jury could be impaneled by the end of the year to start taking testimony from suspects, witnesses and federal investigators, Ciranna said.
The investigation centers on allegations that millions of dollars were misspent or embezzled under the $28 million bond program that started in 1995, the Detroit News said.
