In reading the Sept. 8 review of the movie “Nurse Betty,” I noticed that the character played by Renee Zellweger was described as a “nutcase.”

In this time of political correctness, racial and ethnic slurs are not allowed. Slurs against Jews and Muslims are unacceptable. Slurs for homosexual men and women are frowned on.

But mentally ill people are on society’s bottom rung. It is still acceptable to discriminate against this vulnerable group.

There are more blatant examples of anti-mental patient prejudice. Movies, television and the print media show mental patients in a very one-sided and negative way. But even these minor examples should not go unnoticed. They are not acceptable.
