In reply to: the dark days before Roe vs. Wade, abortion was very secret. Desperate women would risk their lives to end unwanted pregnancies. Many of them died, leaving young, orphaned children. Many others were left unable to have children at a later time when their lives had improved.

In the days since then, abortions became much safer, but the secrecy and privacy were gone.

Desperate women were hounded and heckled.

Doctors were murdered and clinics were blown up–all in the cause of saving lives.

Now that RU-486 has been approved, we finally have the ability to have both privacy and safety.

Women can make the decisions that profoundly affect their own lives. We have come out of the darkness into the sunshine.
