Dozens of parents and students told the Palatine Township High School District 211 board Monday that a possible boundary change in the attendance areas for Conant and Schaumburg High Schools would separate the students from friends and siblings.
During the public hearing on the plan, Supt. Gerald Chapman recommended that the school board transfer part of the current attendance area for Conant High School in Hoffman Estates to Schaumburg High School.
The targeted area is bounded by Irving Park and Wise Roads on the north, Devon Avenue on the south, Barrington Road on the west and Mitchell Boulevard on the east.
Associate Supt. Robert Rozycki said the changes were recommended as a solution to overcrowding at Conant. Chapman also recommended that students in the proposed area who now attend Conant would have the option to stay there and that the younger brothers and sisters of Conant students could either attend Conant with their older siblings or transfer to Schaumburg. Chapman said the school board is expected to make a decision by the end of the month.
