Jon Kenneth Krueger, 54, of Elgin died Friday, Sept. 29, in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. A native of Elgin, Mr. Krueger was a 1964 graduate of Elgin High School, where he was a class president in 1963 and captain of the school’s football and baseball teams. He attended Northwestern University in Evanston on a baseball scholarship before serving in the Army from 1969 to 1971. He was stationed in Germany and worked as a clerk and also played on the Army’s baseball team. After his military service, Mr. Krueger completed a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. In the mid-1970s, Mr. Krueger worked in sales for Procter & Gamble in Chicago. He spent more than a decade working as vice president of advertising for the Miller Brewing Co. in Milwaukee. In the early 1990s, he was chief of operations for Premium Distributors Inc., a wine and spirit wholesaler in Washington before returning to Elgin five years ago. “He was a good teacher and a salesman,” said his brother James. “He set a good example for how to get along with people.” Other survivors include two daughters, Stephanie and Karina; his parents, Kenneth and Orra; another brother, Jerry; and two sisters, Jan Keel and Julie Otlewis. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in O’Connor & Homeier Funeral Home, 364 Division St., Elgin. Services will be private.
