Eugene “Gene” M. Connolly, born to Catherine, nee Corcoran and Joseph Connolly, November 10, 1933, of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, Chicago, passed away on Sept. 30, 2000 in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, from his “little white house on the water.” He leaves his beloved companion and dearest friend, Maureen Danaher of Chicago, who lovingly cared for him during this final illness. He was the proud and devoted father of Patrick (Cindy), Nashville, TN, Erin (Steve) Wallace, Orlando, FL, Brian (Angela), Orlando, FL; their mother Joy Connolly also survives; along with five grandchildren, Meaghan, Shea, Brendan, Molly and Griffin; and Maureen’s children, Neil (Wendy), Joan and Sharon (Dennis) Arrigo; and their families. In addition to his many ventures and adventures, Gene was well-known for his story telling “Never let a grain of truth interfere with a good story”, poetic renditions and some fine songs. He was a good friend to many; a much loved brother to the late Michael (Mary), late John (Patricia), Thomas (Josephine) and Mary (late James) O’Connell; he will be missed by many nieces and nephews. The last twenty summers have been spent at Lake Geneva on Chapin Road. These have been wonderful years of closing the gaps, which a lifetime of work and various interests create. You’ve heard the Irish quote, “Take a good look at this man, you won’t see the likes of him again.” Thanks Gene. Memorial Mass and celebration of life will be on Saturday, 11 a.m., October 7, at St. Gabriel’s Church, 4522 S. Wallace, Chicago, Rev. Michael Flynn, presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
