The Hinsdale Village Board has awarded a $35,000 contract for sidewalk construction in the area of Monroe School.

Though the board had already given the green light for the work, neighbors complained at this week’s board meeting.

Globe Construction Inc. will install new sidewalks on Madison, Monroe and Walnut Streets near the school. The school’s safety task force recommended the installation, but three neighbors told the board that they were not properly notified of the plans, and that the work would cut into areas of their property that they have extensively landscaped.

While they said they are sympathetic to the concerns, trustees noted that extensive publicity has surrounded the safety task force’s discussions about the sidewalks.
