Lillian Culbertson, of Downers Grove, passed away on Sept. 27. Mrs. Culbertson had been Head Librarian of the Chicago Transit Authority. As such, she was honored at her retirement by the Special Libraries Association, Transportation Division. She was chosen as Chicago’s outstanding professional employee in the Superior Public Service Awards Program in 1988. Mrs. Culbertson was a past president of the Chicago Library Club and a member of the Illinois State Library Advisory Board. During her career Mrs. Culbertson also was employed by the Skokie and Oak Park libraries and in retirement volunteered at the Downers Grove Library. She also began a Friends of the Library organization in Fort Collins, Colorado. Mrs. Culbertson is preceded in death by her husband, Don Culbertson; she is survived by her two sisters, Maizie Smith of Springfield, Missouri and Sybil Low, of Orange, California; and a cousin, Sylvia Stevens of Mesa, AZ. A gathering of her friends, in remembrance of Mrs. Culbertson, will be held Sunday, Oct. 8th, 2 p.m. at the Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St., Downers Grove, IL.
