Officials hope that tax money spent on a planning report for the wastewater treatment system will float back as a low-interest state loan to pay for expanding the system.

The Village Board this week approved spending $15,000 on the study, which is required to apply for an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency loan, said Public Works Director John Turner. The study, to be conducted by B&W Design/Build of Crystal Lake, will analyze how wastewater is flowing through the system, compare expansion alternatives and evaluate the sampling program that ensures pollutants are not being dumped back into waterways. It should be finished by Dec. 15, Turner said.

“The IEPA will again rank projects at the beginning of next year, and those projects with facilities plan approval and the ability to proceed are most likely to be eligible for loan funding,” Turner said.
