Mary Catherine “Mary K,” “Mickey” Stuart, nee Zimick, 65, passed into eternal life on Oct. 5, 2000, from injuries sustained from a fall at home. She graduated from St. Wendelin High School, Mount Mercy (Carlow) College in Pittsburg, PA. She graduated from Western New England Law School at age 40, and was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. She was the first woman officer at Davis Monathan AFB in Tuscon AZ. She was retired from the Springfield, MA Housing Authority, and was enjoying retirement by teaching emergency medical services at the basic and paramedic level for Human Services Training Consultants. She was honored during high school and college for her debating skills and a respected orator. She was also honored as EMS instructor of the year in 1999. She leaves two sons, Matthew J. (Sharon) Stuart of Unionville, CT, Sean R. (Abigale) Stuart of Tampa, FL; her father, Matthew D., US Steel retired (Eunice, nee Sam) Zimick of Port Charlotte, FL; a brother, Brian (Renee) Zimick of Pittsburg, PA, a sister, Madonna (Edward) Maris of Sterling, IL; she also leaves nine nieces and nephews, and two grand nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Helen, nee McGinnis and her nephew Tom Maris. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the below mentioned scholarships: Mary Stuart Scholarship Fund, WNEC School of Law, c/o Murray Henner, 384 S. Oyster Bay Rd., Hicksville, NY 11801. Mary Stuart EMS Scholarship Fund, c/o Western Mass EMS, 7 Denniston Pl., Northampton, MA 01060. A memorial Mass will be held on Oct. 12, 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mercy Church, West State St., Granby, MA. Ryder Funeral Home of So. Hadley, MA handling arrangements.
