The Cliff Dwellers, Chicago’s venerable literary and arts club founded in 1907 and whose membership roll has included architect Louis Sullivan, artist John McCutcheon, writer Hamlin Garland and vice president of the United States Charles G. Dawes, kicked off the summer by inaugurating the “Thursday Club,” a weekly late-night soiree where members and their guests enjoyed good conversation and spectacular city views from the club’s balcony overlooking Michigan Avenue and the moonlit lake.
Beauty bash: Top model Christy Turlington promoted her new skincare line, Sundari, at an intimate, low-key cocktail party at Endo-Exo Apothecary, the Halsted Street beauty emporium. Turlington and her partner Cavan Mahony mingled with guests and dispensed skincare tips. The ambience was cool and understated, unlike the hectic, highly charged atmosphere of a typical celebrity, in-store personal appearance.
