Van Ess, 63, of Portage, WI, formerly of Chicago, retired after 39 years with the Illinois Air National Guard, beloved husband of Nancy, nee Beigl; devoted father of Debbie (Rick) Smith, Sue (the late Eric) England, Shari (Mike) Foley, Bonnie Walz, and Vicki Van Ess; loving grandfather of nine; dear brother of Marianne (Edward) Chmelar and the late Robert Van Ess; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Funeral service Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 W. Belmont Ave. Interment Maryhill Cemetery.
