The Carpentersville Plan Commission has recommended approval of a special-use permit that would enable a meat processor to build an office and industrial facility in the Spring Hill Center for Commerce & Industry.
The commission last week unanimously approved the permit on the condition that village staff review and approve landscaping plans to ensure nearby homes would be screened from the proposed facility.
James Jendruczek, president and managing partner of Addison-based Trim-Rite Inc., wants to relocate and expand the wholesale ham processing operation from its current 35,000-square-foot building to a 63,594-square-foot facility on 6.58 acres.
The building would have 140 parking spaces and eight loading docks on its north side. An additional 47 parking spaces could be added.
The business has approximately $70 million in gross revenue and about 175 employees, said Carl Swanson, president of Commercial Property Associates, a brokerage, investment and development firm based in the Spring Hill Center, Commerce Parkway off Illinois Highway 31.
The facility would open in August.
It would contribute about $60,000 annually in property taxes to local taxing bodies, including Carpentersville-based School District 300, said company officials. The proposal next heads to the Zoning Board, which will make a recommendation to the Village Board.
