The Huntley Plan Commission narrowly endorsed a series of changes to the village code regulating the storage of trucks, boats, campers and inoperable vehicles in residential areas.

Revised a number of times during the past two months, the latest draft proposal was further tweaked during Monday night’s session. As recommended for Village Board approval by a vote of 4-3, the suggested amendment permits outside storage of trucks with Class B or D plates with a gross weight of 12,000 pounds or less, and one recreational vehicle subject to property setback requirements.

Inoperable vehicles would be required to be stored in an enclosed garage, according to the proposed amendment.

Temporary parking of an additional vehicle would be limited to seven consecutive days with a maximum of 28 days in a calendar year. A provision requiring 24-hour advance notice to the Police Department prior to temporary storage was changed Monday to require notification within 24 hours of its being parked.

The proposed amendment is expected to go before the Village Board Thursday night.
